2025 Halloween Collection

A FLOCK OF FATE

"In the stillness after the storm, they stood: One of stitches, one of straw, one of starlight, one of shadows."

Our 2025 Halloween Collection was very experimental and a lot of fun to produce. We came up with a concept for each character, then Maddi wrote a short story that wove the lives of our four Halloween characters together. This collection incorporated a lot of mixed media - there were metal elements, enamel pins, and tarot cards co-designed by Steph Walsh, an artist and member of the BINKABU production team.

A Flock of Fate - A Short Story by BINKABU

On All Hallow’s Eve in the year 2025, as the veil between realms began to thin, a lightning bolt split the sky.

Imbued with a peculiar magic, it veered towards a rickety loft, drawn to the muttered prayers of a bird-mad scientist. Propped on her cluttered bench was Frankie, her latest wild experiment, a patchwork creature of wonder and madness. The lightning struck true, and Frankie jolted to life, all the parts of their form animating as one, button eyes blinking.

But the lightning was wild and untamed, and it forked, searching.

___

The second strike fell in an overgrown field, its only inhabitant long forgotten.

A crooked, handmade scarecrow, hidden in overgrown grass, was the second mark. Left behind long ago, the tattered figure was cobbled together from scraps and straw. A clumsily-built joke with no name and no purpose… until the lightning struck.

As the jagged bolt kissed straw and feather, the Scare Crow stirred. And it smiled. It rose without memory or malice, with only wonder in its heart. A wide-eyed stranger in a world that had forgotten him.
___

From their perch beyond the physical realm, The Mystic Owl felt it all before it happened — a ripple in the fabric of all things.

A disturbance of the balance, felt throughout the thrum of the cosmos. She turned her all-seeing gaze toward the mortal world to witness the oncoming breach of balance.

She descended on star-dusted wings, drawn to the events she could not clearly foresee. Beneath her watchful gaze, the lightning met its marks, and accidental life stumbled into the world.
___

Then came the Raven.

Death’s ancient familiar, sent by its master to watch the newly awoken creatures that lay outside the order of things. Drawn not by curiosity, but by imbalance.

Though it was wreathed in shadows and silence, it could not hide from the all-seeing eye, and it stilled as it felt the owl’s divine gaze fix upon its rune-etched feathers. Their gazes locked, two sentinels of fate, drawn together on a night when magic breathed and boundaries blurred. An unspoken understanding passed between them.

A thread had been tangled between them all.

___

In the stillness after the storm, they stood: One of stitches, one of straw, one of starlight, one of shadows.

Two lives that should never have been, and two ancient guardians who remained to stand watch.

Together, bound by unnatural will, they formed a flock not of feathers, but of fate.

2024 Halloween Collection

A touch of the macabre, an edge of adventure, a sprinkle of innovation

Our 2024 Halloween Collection was a monumental release for BINKABU, featuring our very first mammal earrings - the grey-headed flying fox, fruit bat, or The Imposter. This design has since become one of our most highly sought after pieces, due to its adorable design and the very surprising and unusual step outside of our usual avian niche.

The Plague Doctor

The Plague Doctor was the second most popular design in the 2024 Halloween Collection. This design is one of my favourites to date; In all the years I have been doing this, I have never been as satisfied as I was when this came together. The concept, the illustration, the vibe, the colours... perfection.

2023 Halloween Collection

In this collection, we unleashed the true wild and quirky nature of our creativity. Our commitment to fun, whimsical, and ultimately unique pieces lead to the conception of the Cthurlew (a Curlew-Cthulhu hybrid creature), the Spellaburra, Frankenstein's Parrot, and the Jack-Owl-Lantern. This collection felt like a transition for us as designers, a moment where we trusted our instincts and let ourselves explore the boundaries of ridiculousness, resulting in a cohesive collection of quirky little feathered monsters.

This collection also featured a handful of extra goodies like stickers, pins, charms and shirts.

The 'Cthurlew'

The 'Cthurlew' is a bush stone-curlew/Cthulhu hybrid creature. Yes, it is ridiculous. I think what makes me so thrilled about the 'Cthurlew' is that it had its naysayers, and I myself wasn't convinced anyone would really 'get' it. But it was the second most popular design in 2023. I don't know how I ended up mashing these two things together, but it happened, and I am so glad it did.

2021-2022 Halloween Collections

In 2021 came the first iteration of the Spookaburra, a kookaburra skeleton that was absolutely perfect for Halloween. So perfect, in fact, that it would come back for 3 years in a row, as a strong seller each time.

In 2022 we updated some of our 2021 designs quite significantly. New snowy owls were introduced, very similar to how they appear in the 2024 collection, including the magical addition of the golden letter.

My personal favourite of the designs in this period was The Tell-Tale Raven, a dangle earring featuring a raven hanging from a realistic heart stud topper. This design was inspired by two mysterious and macabre stories by Edgar Allan Poe: The Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven.
