WHAT IS POLYMER CLAY?
I am literally going to give you a Wikipedia answer, no shame:
Polymer clay is a type of hardenable modeling clay based on the polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It typically contains no clay minerals, but like mineral clay a liquid is added to dry particles until it achieves gel-like working properties, and similarly, the part is put into an oven to harden, hence its colloquial designation as clay.
WHAT IS ACRYLIC?
Acrylic is a transparent plastic material (although as you'll see with our earrings, many different colours and patterns are available through various techniques!) with outstanding strength, stiffness and optical clarity. Acrylic sheet is easy to fabricate, bonds well with adhesives and solvents, and is easy to thermoform. It has superior weathering properties compared to many other transparent plastics.
WHAT ARE THE EARRING POSTS MADE OUT OF?
Surgical stainless steel, so a good choice for sensitive earlobes. For super super sensitive ears, I have an option of gold-plated posts - please email or message me on Instagram to ask for these!
CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE PRODUCTS IN DETAIL?
These are unique polymer clay or acrylic earrings, designed, handmade and hand-painted by me (Maddi). Each clay piece is finished with a satin varnish to protect any paint, pastel or glitter from being removed. Due to the intricate details in these earrings, you might come across the odd fingerprint or dust particle, but that only adds to the made-by-hand charm of these cuties. In some cases, particular colours are mixed by me, therefore colours may vary to the original photo. The photography aims to capture the true colours as best as possible, however, colours may vary on different devices/computers.
Each bird head is mounted on a stainless surgical steel earring post, with a stainless steel nut (studs) or a round, plastic/steel back for dangles to secure the earring and keep the bird head in a nice position, for the perfect addition to the sensitive ear’s earring collection. Both types of backings are very firm and secure. These earrings are very lightweight and dangle gently from the earlobes. They are placed on my business card to show their approximate sizing, although sizing will vary slightly with each piece due to being made without moulds. They look like wonderfully bright geometric dangles from a distance and get more and more interesting as you get closer! They make a big statement without being too large or too heavy, including the Big Birds!
DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?
YAS, we do. Shipping out of Australia is not cheap and I do not factor shipping into the costs of the actual earrings, so it costs much more than domestic shipping but trust me it's WORTH IT. International parcels get sent via Standard international post which includes tracking and is much faster and safer than the economy option. We have tried to make international shipping as affordable as we can for you (and for us), which is why we decided to offer FREE domestic Australian shipping, so that we can lower the international prices. If you have any other questions on this, don't hesitate to get in touch!
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY BIRDS TO GET TO ME?
Please allow 3-5 days processing time for regular orders, and 5-7 days for custom orders (processing = me actually making them. Everything is made to order and super special). Your birdies will be sent out the day after completion.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY HANDMADE?
Well, I do not make the earring posts or the rubber earring backs or the jump rings myself, I will admit that. I buy quality supplies from other lovely small businesses. But the actual clay birds start as little piles of clay, and I shape them by hand into the products you see on the website. I use one circular mould so that the bodies are always the same size, but other than that it's all me, with a couple of tools for super fine details. I also hand paint the eyes and occasionally other details in the feathers. My design is unique and no pair of birbs will be exactly the same as another.
The acrylic earrings are all my unique design - I send the design off to a local Brisbane laser cutting company, the pieces get cut, and I assemble the earrings myself once I receive all the teeny tiny pieces. Believe it or not, the acrylic design is so detailed and intricate that the assembly takes longer than making the clay birds!
IS IT SAFE FOR MY BIRD TO CHEW ON OR PLAY WITH MY EARRINGS?
No. This will not only break your earrings, but your bird may ingest the clay, which, as you can read above, is not actually clay but a type of plastic. Please do not let your real birds near your lobe birds.
